Brighton Hospice to Participate in UW Madison Public Service Fair, Seeks Compassionate Volunteers

Brighton Hospice partners with Public Service Fair to recruit compassionate volunteers for the elderly community on hospice care. Recruiting at UW Madison Sept 4th, 2025

(PRUnderground) September 4th, 2025

Brighton Hospice will participate in the University of Wisconsin-Madison Morgridge Center for Public Service’s Public Service Fair this Thursday, September 4, from 3:30-6:00 p.m., while simultaneously launching a community-wide call for volunteers in Madison and surrounding areas.

The Brighton Hospice team will be joined by Hospice Clinical Care Consultant Dillon Graff and dedicated volunteers Easha Agarwal and Varun Shankar to share information about hospice care and the meaningful volunteer opportunities available within the organization.

Making a Difference Through Volunteering

Brighton Hospice’s volunteer program offers diverse ways for community members to support patients and families during life’s most precious moments. Volunteers provide companionship and comfort through various activities including:

  • Creative engagement: painting, crafts, card games, music, and reading
  • Meaningful presence: offering dignity-affirming companionship and conversation
  • Comfort care: gentle touch, aromatherapy, and guided meditation
  • Legacy preservation: helping patients document their life stories and memories for families
  • Family support: providing respite care to give families time for self-care during difficult transitions

“Our volunteers are truly versatile and compassionate individuals who develop meaningful connections with our patients,” said Sara de Felice, Brighton Hospice’s volunteer coordinator. “They hold space for people walking this path, affirming their dignity and humanity while providing comfort in countless ways.”

Special Recruitment Focus: Pet Therapy and Veterans

Brighton Hospice is particularly seeking two specialized volunteer groups that provide unique comfort to hospice patients:

Pet Therapy Teams: The healing power of animal companionship is invaluable in hospice care. Brighton is actively exploring a collaboration with the Southern Wisconsin Canine Therapy Dog Association (https://southernwitherapydogs.org/) to help interested volunteers and their pets obtain certification at reduced costs, addressing the financial barrier that often prevents participation in pet therapy programs.

Veteran-to-Veteran Companionship: As part of the We Honor Veterans Program, Brighton Hospice provides specialized support to veterans at end of life. The organization seeks veteran volunteers to provide peer companionship and understanding to fellow veterans during their final journey. Current veteran volunteer Johnny Simmons exemplifies this meaningful service, drawing on his deep connections within the Madison area veteran community to ensure no veteran faces this transition alone.

Interactive Fair Experience

Fair attendees can visit the Brighton Hospice booth to learn about “Hospice 101” and volunteer opportunities through interactive activities. The team will feature a spinning prize wheel with hospice-related questions and trivia, with prizes for all participants. Visitors can take home Brighton-branded items including tea steeping mugs, straws, lip balm, lotions, and blankets.

Join Our Team

Brighton Hospice is actively seeking volunteers who want to make a difference in their community, particularly those with therapy-certified pets and veterans interested in peer support. The organization provides comprehensive training and ongoing support for all volunteers, regardless of previous experience.
